the exiles

10 February 2010

the sea-green wave
sped them onward
toward a world
new, terrible
full of sorrow
tomorrow’s dreams
lost as the end
came to the land
of man’s first home;
gone was the dome
of the temple,
once glorious,
and the great wood
at the center
of the world–lost
and downfallen
the great city
crushed under waves
tall as mountains;
homeless, alone
cold starlight now
the sum total
of their wisdom,
guides the proud ships
to exile’s shores
where Atlantis
will be no more
but mankind’s myth.
